Now Booking for Sunday Best and The Big Time

Sunday Best-
I am booking for the monthly Ice House Main Room show called "Bobbie Oliver's Sunday Best." But, I don’t have any openings for a while. I am booking for the following dates. Before you hit me back to book a date, please note that I am going to require every comic in the show to pre-sell at least 10 tickets in order to be in the show ($10 each). I hate to do it, but if we don’t get butts in the seats, the Ice House doesn’t make money, and we lose our chance to have a monthly showcase. Everyone will get 7 minutes and we will be taping all the shows. I am only booking 12 comics each night, so first-come first-served. Available dates below.

September 21 @ 7:30

October 5 @ 7:30

December 7 @ 7:00

The Big Time-
I am producing a show called "The Big Time" in the Ice House Annex that would give six comics 15- minute spots, and we will be taping the shows.

Since there will only be 6 comics, we will obviously need anyone who is in this show to promote the hell out of it so we can keep doing these. We will be selling our own advance tickets for this for $8 each and I am asking each comic to sell 6-10 tickets. Next available date for this is July 31.

Hit me up if you want to book a spot in one of these shows.

Kate Roxburgh becomes Comedy Store Regular

Our own Kate Roxburgh got tapped this week by Mitzy Shore to be a Comedy Store regular. Way to go Kate!! You rock girl even if you do talk funny!

Congrats to Jim Lee and Diane Kawasaki!! Break a leg in the finals, guys!

Uncle Clyde's Comedy Contest auditions are every Wednesday at 6:30 in the Ice House Annex (be prepared to do 3 minutes). For more info, visit

To contribute to Headliner, just email Bobbie and Chris.

February Newsletter

Hello fam!
You are probably thinking, "What happened to December and January?" Well, my holidays turned out a lot different than I planned due to a family emergency and an unexpected trip to Georgia. I feel like I've been playing catch-up ever since. So, hope you enjoyed the break, because the Rubber Chicken is back baby-and this time it's extra rubbery (or is it extra chickeny?)!

As always, if you have anything you would like to see in this newsletter-comedy shows, booking info, pics, non-comedy classified ads, whatever- send all newsletter items to and I will include your item next month.

I challenge you to read the entire chicken. Lots of juicy info inside!

Welcome the New Family Members!

I know, I know, I should have done this last month. But, better late than never, right? We have an awesome new bunch of folks joining the cult, I mean family. So, welcome to

Jule Ann

The Joke Gym-Scott and Paula

Work out new material at The Joke Gym

Standup Academy alumni Scott Shimamoto and Paula Johnson are launching "The Joke Gym," a new workout room at Zapata Vive Mexican Restaurant in Arcadia.

On the first and third Thursdays of the month, starting Feb. 21, The Joke Gym will present 15 comedians in an open mic format, then five featured comedians. Each performer will get five minutes.

This venue has great food, a full bar, and free parking. No cover charge or drink minimum for the audience, so invite your friends. Scott and Paula's goal is to build an audience of "regular" people, not just other comics. Standup Academy students (current and former) are especially welcome. Wear your rubber chickens proudly, boys and girls!

For complete details (including the featured opening night comics), visit The Joke Gym website.

Jenean Atwood auditions for Tyler Perry in Atlanta!

Way to go Jenean!

Jenean writes:

I must say, doing stand-up really prepared me for that experience. Trying to make 200 people laugh made slightly easier to go before him, his director and about 3 other people. Don't get me wrong, when the plane touched down in Atlanta, I started shaking! But, I had an "a ha" moment...right before I went in to audition, I had been struggling with a monologue I tried to learn in two days but just didn't feel like I could "sell" it. I went back to my original plan to just do comedy and guess what? Comedy became a comfort zone...a friend! I don't expect to be nerves-free the next time I go up on stage, but I was so empowered! I made the man laugh - really laugh! And he told me I was funny!
